Ripon Closes Season At Illinois College This Weekend

RIPON, Wis. - The Ripon College football team will wrap up their 2019 season Saturday at Illinois College in a rematch of their game earlier this season, which was won 28-25 by the Blueboys. This will be the 24th meeting between these two teams, with Ripon holding a 14-9 advantage. Illinois College has won six of the last seven meetings.

Each team finished third out of six teams in their respective divisions this season, and the winner will be awarded fifth place in the Midwest Conference this season. Illinois College enters Saturday's game averaging 34.7 points per game, while Ripon is scoring 26.2 ppg. The Blueboys are allowing 18.7 ppg, while Ripon is giving up 20.9. The Red Hawks will bring the league's top rushing offense into the game, as they have gained 266 yards per game on the ground. Illinois College is the MWC's second-leading passing team with 189 yards per game through the air.

Ripon's offense is engineered by quarterback Cormac Madigan, who is fresh off a 259-yard performance against Lawrence, which is the fifth-highest single game rushing total in program history. He leads the MWC in rushing this season with 101.9 yards, and could become just the second player with more than one 1,000-yard rushing seasons with 83 yards on Saturday. He is one of two Red Hawks in the top 10 in the league in rushing, as running back Austin Bunders ranks eighth with 62.9 yards per game.

Illinois College is led by quarterback Drew Chance, who leads the MWC in passing yardage with 184.5 yards per game, while also ranking second in the league with 11 touchdown passes. He is completing 58.1 percent of his passes this season.

Ripon's defense will try to stop the Blue Boy passing attack with a defensive backfield that has two of the top seven individuals with passes defended in Bennett Groves and Cameron Gruenwald. Gruenwald also leads the team with four interceptions on the year, giving him 14 in his career, which ranks seventh in program history. Lane Barnes is second on the team with three interceptions, which is tied for fourth in the MWC.

Saturday's game will begin at Noon in Jacksonville, Ill., and can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/.
