Red Hawks End Season With Loss At Illinois College

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - Illinois College scored 21 consecutive second quarter points Saturday afternoon, helping them defeat Ripon 35-21 in the 2019 season finale for both teams. The Blue Boys gained 490 yards of total offense (362 through the air), while Ripon piled up 333, including 228 on the ground.

Illinois College (6-3) got the scoring started mid-way through the first quarter when Trevor Smalls scored on a two-yard run. Ripon (4-6) would later tie the game on a one-yard touchdown plunge late in the quarter. Smalls added a second TD from seven yards out to give IC the lead for good, followed by a pair of touchdown passes by Drew Chance. The first one went three yards to Seth Vaughn, while the second covered 41 yards to Zach Thompson in the final seconds of the first half.

Vaughn caught another TD to start the second half, as Chance found him on a 58-yard strike. Madigan would score his second touchdown of the game mid-way through the third quarter to cut the lead to 35-14. Ripon capped the scoring with a 16-yard touchdown pass from Madigan to Kaipo Magsayo in the final seconds.

Madigan led all players with 109 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries (4.7 ypc). That gives him 1,026 rushing yards for the season, making him just the second player in program history to have more than one 1,000-yard rushing seasons in a career. His 2,129 career rushing yards currently rank 10th in program history.

Madigan also completed 7-of-13 passes for 105 yards. Austin Bunders added 56 rushing yards, while Magsayo caught four passes for 46 yards. Defensively, Ripon was led by Tyler Vandehei's 10 tackles, while fellow freshman Caleb Cihlar recorded nine.

Illinois College was led by Chance, who completed 19-of-27 passes for 362 yards and three touchdowns, while also leading the team in rushing with 56 yards on 13 carries (4.3 ypc). KJ Corley caught four passes for a game-high 160 yards.

Ripon finishes the season with 2,622 rushing yards, which ranks eighth in program history.
