Ripon Wins Low-Scoring Affair

DECORAH, Iowa - Ripon earned their third consecutive win Saturday afternoon with a 59-49 victory at Luther College. The Red Hawks shot 45 percent (24-53) from the field, while Luther was held to just 32 percent (19-59) shooting.

Luther (3-3) got off to a good start, as Aaron Blumberg connected on a 3-pointer to begin the game, but Jaylen Mahone scored the next five to give Ripon (3-1) the lead in what was his first career start. The lead changed hands a few times in the half before Drew Jorgensen scored nine consecutive points in a two minute span for the Red Hawks to put them up by 12, before heading into halftime with a nine-point advantage.

Ripon continued to lead in the second half, going up by as many as 12 during the period. Luther would cut that lead to five with six minutes remaining, but that would be as close as they would get, as the Red Hawks held them at bay thanks to timely shooting.

Seth Kostroski led the Red Hawks with 17 points, while Mahone finished with career-highs of 14 points and eight rebounds. Jorgensen added 11 points off the bench, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Luther was led by Blumberg's 12 points, while Gage Thompson had nine points and four rebounds off the bench. Garrian Wade led all players with 10 boards.

Ripon will be in action again next weekend when they'll host Wheaton (Ill.) on Saturday at 3 p.m. That game can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/.
