STEVENS POINT, Wis. - In a game that featured seven ties and 13 lead changes, Ripon's women's basketball team came out victorious, defeating UW-Stevens Point 73-67.
There were five lead changes in the first quarter alone, which didn't see either team lead by more than four. Ripon (6-2) led by one at the end of the first, and extended that lead to five on a 3-pointer by
Jesi Nay early in the second period. UW-Stevens Point (3-5) battled back to tie the score at 35 just before halftime, and they would take a 39-37 lead into the break.
Ripon grabbed the lead back mid-way through the third quarter on a 3-pointer by
Alison Leslie, but UW-Stevens Point would lead again at the end of the quarter, 54-51. The Pointers took a six-point advantage with eight minutes to play, but back-to-back 3-pointers by Leslie and Nay tied the score at 59 with under five minutes to play. Ripon took the lead on a
Caitie Carpenter layup in the final minutes, and they would never look back, ending the game on a 12-6 run.
Alyassa Burgess led the Red Hawks with her fourth career double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. Leslie added 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting, while Nay and
Kiana Fall each scored nine points.
UW-Stevens Point was led by Bailee Collins' 26 points and eight rebounds, while Carly Cerrato and Amber Baehman scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.
