WAUKESHA, Wis. - Ripon fell to Carroll Thursday afternoon by a score of 5-4 in a non-conference contest. The Red Hawks out-hit the Pioneers 9-8, but allowed the go-ahead run to cross the plate in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Ripon (4-7) got on the board first with a run in the top of the second, as
Riley Erickson scored on a
Tyler Nelson single. Carroll (6-8) got that run back in the third inning on an RBI single of their own, before the Red Hawks grabbed the lead back in the sixth on a sac fly by
Joey Garza and an RBI single from Erickson.
That lead was short-lived, as Carroll crushed a three-run homer in the bottom of that inning to take their first lead of the game. Ripon tied things up the following inning on an RBI groundout by
Nick Terrell, but Carroll pushed across a run in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single, which proved to be the difference in the game.
Erickson led all players with three hits, including one double, while Nelson and
Nick Taranto each recorded two base knocks.Â
The Red Hawks will be in action again on Saturday when they'll open their conference season with a doubleheader at St. Norbert. That twinbill will begin at Noon in De Pere, Wis., with LiveStats available atÂ
