RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's softball team did not allow a run in their two games against Beloit College Saturday afternoon, winning 3-0 and 6-0 to earn a sweep over the Buccaneers. Senior
Lexi Reetz pitched all 14 innings for the Red Hawks, allowing 12 hits in the two games combined, while totaling 13 strikeouts.
Ripon (9-23, 4-10 MWC) broke a scoreless tie in the first game with a run in the third on an RBI double by Reetz, which scored fellow senior
Teara Morgenroth from first base. Ripon's other two runs came in the sixth on an RBI triple off the bat of
Cortney Bols and an RBI single from
Isabella Osborn.
The Red Hawks finished with five hits, with Osborn leading the way with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. Reetz (9-9) earned the victory with five hits of scoreless ball, while striking out nine without walking a batter.
In the day's second game, Ripon again broke the scoreless tie with a four-run second inning, which saw
Camryn Hamilton draw a bases loaded walk to get the Red Hawks on the board. Reetz would add a two-run double later in the inning, before
Julia Sanchez drove her in with a sinlge up the middle. Ripon's other two runs came in the fourth on an RBI double to left center by
Claire Luebke, who would later score on an error by Beloit (7-27, 1-11 MWC).
Ripon finished with nine hits, led by Reetz, who went 3-for-4 at the dish with two RBI and two runs scored. Reetz was equally dominant in the circle, scattering seven hits, while striking out three batters. With her pitching performance today, Reetz becomes the first player in program history to record at least 100 strikeouts in four different seasons. She now has 465 career strikeouts, which ranks second in program history and is 33 shy of the school record.
