MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Ripon's baseball team won for the 11th time in 13 games Thursday afternoon, defeating Wisconsin Lutheran 9-3 in a non-conference affair. The Red Hawks also out-hit the Warriors by a 13-6 margin.
All of Ripon's runs came in two innings, as they began the scoring with a five-run third. That rally began when
Michael Barnes scored on a throwing error for the first run of the game.
Keegan Johnston then connected on an RBI single to center, while
Cam Zimmerman drove in a run with a single to second.
Noah Herried and Johnston would later score on a Wisconsin Lutheran error to give Ripon (16-12) a 5-0 lead.
After the Wisconsin Lutheran (13-20) scored two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth, Ripon put the game away with a four-run sixth inning. Johnston and
Jacob Pankratz accounted for all the RBI in that frame, as each drove in a pair of runs with a double down the left field line.
Barnes led Ripon with three hits, while Johnston,
Joey Garza, and
Nick Taranto each recorded two.
Brian Brown (3-2) was credited with the win, striking out two batters in one inning of relief.
Ripon is scheduled to be in action again on Saturday when they'll travel up the road to play a doubleheader at UW-Oshkosh, beginning at Noon. LiveStats will be available for those games atÂ
