Ripon Takes Two From UW-Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. - Ripon swept UW-Oshkosh Saturday afternoon in a non-conference road doubleheader to extend the Red Hawks' current winning streak to five games, while also giving them 13 wins in their last 15 games. Ripon shutout the Titans in the first game, 5-0, before winning game two 12-1 in seven innings.

The Red Hawks (18-12) wasted no time getting on the board, as they never trailed during the day. Michael Barnes got the scoring started with a two-run homer to right center in the top of the first, his third of the season and ninth of his career. Ripon added another run in the fourth when Nick Terrell scored on a UW-Oshkosh fielding error, before scoring twice more in the sixth on a Tyler Nelson single and on a throwing error by the Titans (17-18).

Ripon finished with 10 hits in the game, with two apiece from Barnes, Terrell, Riley Erickson, and Noah Herried. Brice Swick (5-2) earned the victory, pitching seven scoreless innings, scattering six hits and striking out eight.

The day's second game saw Ripon begin the scoring early once more, as Nick Taranto hit a sac fly in the top of the first that scored Nelson from third base. The Red Hawks scored again in the following inning when Keegan Johnston crossed the plate on a wild pitch. They then broke the game wide open in the fourth, scoring six runs on five hits, with the big blow coming off the bat of Erickson, who hit a bases loaded triple that cleared the bases. Barnes later added an RBI single to center, while Taranto drove in a pair of runs with a double to left.

UW-Oshkosh's lone run came on an RBI single in the fifth, but Ripon got that run back and more in the sixth, scoring on an RBI single by Taranto, and twice more on a double by Johnston. The Red Hawks capped the scoring in the seventh on an RBI single from Joey Garza.

Ripon finished the game with 14 hits, with three apiece coming from Erickson and Barnes. Garza, Taranto, and Terrell each recorded two base knocks. Brian Brown (4-2) earned the win, allowing one run on six hits and striking out six in a seven-inning complete game.

The Red Hawks will be in action again on Tuesday when they'll travel to Marian University for a single game at 7 p.m. That game will be played in Fond du Lac, Wis. and can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/marianwi/.
