RIVER FALLS, Wis. - Ripon's women's soccer team took UW-River Falls to the limit Friday afternoon, before losing 3-2 in overtime. The game was evenly played for most of the game, with the Red Hawks holding an 18-16 shot advantage.
Ripon (0-1) struck first with the only goal of the first half, coming unassisted in the 33rd minute off the foot of
Camrie Schmitz. UW-River Falls (1-0) tied things up five minutes into the second half with Maggie Koehler's first goal of the day, thanks to an assist from Mariah Troje.
That tie lasted less than five minutes, as
Brianna Schnell scored in the upper right corner of the goal in the 55th minute. Ripon held that lead until three and a half minutes remaining in regulation when Koehler tied things up off an assist from Lexi Peterson. Koehler wasn't done there, as she netted the game-winning goal five minutes into overtime to complete the hat trick and give the Falcons the victory.
Stefani Zeiger played the entire game in goal for the Red Hawks, making five saves. UW-River Falls saw Haley Crosby and Amanda Ladue combine to save seven shots.
Ripon will try to rebound on Saturday when they'll battle UW-Stout in River Falls, Wis. at 2 p.m.
