FOND DU LAC, Wis. - The Ripon College women's soccer team earned their first victory of the season Tuesday night, defeating Marian (Wis.) University 4-3, behind
Camrie Schmitz's first career hat trick.
Marian (1-3) got on the board first when Ashley Welk scored her second goal of the season just seven and a half minutes into the game. Ripon (1-3) tied things up five minutes later when Schmitz connected on her first of three goals.
Paige Pierce gave Ripon their first lead of the afternoon in the 17th minute with her first goal of the year, making her just the fourth player in program history to record at least 40 career goals. Marian's Shannon Coughlin then tied things up in the 39th minute, sending the two teams into halftime knotted up at two.
In the 64th minute, Schmitz gave the Red Hawks the lead for good, and followed that up with her team-leading fifth goal of the season later in the half, on an assist from
Abby Ryan. Coughlin netted her second goal of the day with less than nine minutes to play to cut Ripon's lead to one, but it was not enough.
Stefani Zeiger played all 90 minutes at Goal Keeper for the Red Hawks, making eight saves. Her counterpart Kylie Lange saved nine shots in her 90 minutes of action.
Ripon will be in action again on Saturday when they'll host St. Olaf at Noon. That game will be played at Prairie Field, and can be seen live atÂ
