GRINNELL, Iowa - Ripon's women's basketball team didn't trail for the three quarters Saturday afternoon, defeating Grinnell with ease,81-53. The Red Hawks shot 44 percent (28-63) from the field, including 54 percent (7-13) from 3-point range, while Grinnell converted just 32 percent (18-57) of their shots.
The first quarter was tightly contested, with four ties and two lead changes, as they entered the second quarter tied at 17.
Alyassa Burgess then gave Ripon the lead for good on the first basket of the second quarter, en route to a 37-27 halftime lead.
Ripon (10-3, 6-0 MWC) continued its dominance in the second half, leading by as many as 28 on a pair of
Megan Dille free throws in the final minutes. All 17 Ripon players received playing time, while 13 Red Hawks scored at least one point.
Burgess led Ripon with her fifth career double-double, scoring a career-high 24 points, while pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds and blocking eight shots, which is tied for the second-most single game blocks in program history. Burgess now has 82 career blocked shots, which ranks fourth in school history.
Alison Leslie added 18 points on 4-of-7 from 3-point range against the Pioneers.
Grinnell (7-6, 3-3 MWC) was led by Tyria Heath's 11 points. Kate Tomczik added nine points and three rebounds.
