RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's women's basketball team recorded its fewest turnovers in a single game since the turn of the century Tuesday night, committing just seven miscues, including only one after halftime, helping them remain undefeated in conference play with their 18th consecutive victory against a Midwest Conference opponent in a 67-45 win against Beloit. The Red Hawks out-rebounded the Buccaneers 42-36 with nearly half of Ripon's rebounds (19) coming on the offensive end of the court. That helped the Red Hawks score 32 second-chance points, while outscoring Beloit 36-14 in the paint.
Beloit's only lead of the game came in the opening minutes, as they scored the first five points. That quickly changed however, as Ripon (13-3, 9-0 MWC) scored the next nine to take the lead for good. Beloit (2-14, 0-9 MWC) was able to keep things close, trailing by two entering the second quarter, but Ripon wore them down, outscoring the Buccaneers 13-4 in the second period to take a 26-15 lead into halftime.
The Red Hawks continued to pour it on in the second half, scoring 25 points in the third quarter to open up a 21-point lead. Ripon took their largest lead of 28 on a 3-pointer by
Danyelle Waldera with six minutes remaining. The Red Hawks made 42 percent (16-38) of their second-half shots, after converting just 28 percent (9-32) in the first half.
Ripon was led by
Alison Leslie's 18 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range, while tying a career-high with eight rebounds (four offensive). With those four 3-pointers, Leslie now has 43 threes on the season, which ranks seventh in program history for a single season. She is just 12 shy of the second-highest total, and 26 shy of Emma McDonald's school record.
Skyylar Brescia added 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench for the Red Hawks.
Beloit was led by 11 points and seven rebounds from both Christy Melton and Kelly Loudon, while Lauren Glaser scored nine points. The Buccaneers shot 32 percent (16-50) from the field during the game.
Ripon will try to keep their momentum rolling Saturday when they'll travel to St. Norbert College. That game will begin at 3 p.m. in De Pere, Wis., and can be seen live atÂ
