RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's men's basketball team extended their season-long winning streak to six games Wednesday night with an 83-62 win against Cornell. One of the top-shooting teams in Division-III, the Red Hawks shot 52 percent (32-62) from the field, including 50 percent (10-20) from 3-point range. They also held Cornell to just 36 percent (21-59) shooting and 24 percent (7-29) from long-distance.
Ripon (15-7, 11-4 MWC) never trailed in the game, scoring the first nine points of the night, while holding Cornell (11-10, 6-8 MWC) scoreless four and a half minutes into the contest. The Rams cut the lead to six later in the half, but that's as close as they would get. Ripon answered with a 17-5 run to take an 18-point advantage in the final minutes of the opening period, before going into halftime with a 40-25 lead.
The Red Hawks opened the second half on a 12-5 run to put the game away with a 27-point lead, as they would lead by double-digits the rest of the way. Ripon outscored Cornell in the paint during the game by a 32-14 margin.
Trent Jones led all scorers with 27 points on 9-of-15 shooting, while also pulling down a team-high seven rebounds. That moves Jones into a tie for 18th for most points in program history with 1,164 in his career.
Ryan Steffes and
Seth Kostroski each added 10 points with two 3-pointers apiece, while Kostroski added five assists and two steals.
Cornell was led by Clayton Leipold's 16 points off the bench. Jordan Magnani added 10 points, four rebounds, and four assists.
