OSHKOSH, Wis. - Ripon's women's basketball team lost to St. Norbert College 51-39 Friday night in the first day of UW-Oshkosh's Tournament. The Red Hawks were outscored in the paint by a 26-12 margin, while shooting just 27 percent (15-56) from the field, including 17 percent (3-18) from 3-point range.
Ripon (1-3) began the game on a positive note, as
Alison Leslie sank a 3-pointer on the opening possession of the game. There were three lead changes and seven ties in the first half, the last of which saw
Kiana Fall tie the score at 18 for the Red Hawks heading into halftime.
St. Norbert's Jessica Boerner would score the first basket of the second half and SNC would hold that lead for the remainder of the game. The Green Knights led by as many as 10 in the third quarter, but entered the fourth leading by seven. In that final quarter,
Vanessa Solano cut that lead to four with a jumper with seven and a half minutes remaining, which is as close as Ripon would get the rest of the night. St. Norbert closed the game on a 14-6 run.
Leslie led Ripon with 13 points, which included a trio of 3-pointers. Solano added eight points on 4-of-7 shooting in what marked the first game of her collegiate career.
St. Norbert (2-2) was led by Kaycee Gierczak's 16 points, nine rebounds, three blocked shots, and four steals. Boerner added 12 points and six rebounds, while Olivia DeCleene posted 11 points, eight boards, and a game-high four assists.
Ripon will conclude the UW-Oshkosh Tournament on Saturday when they'll face Alma College at 1 p.m. That game will be played in Oshkosh, Wis., and can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/uwosh/#live.
