Brittany Dick '09 was an All-Conference performer in two different sports at Ripon College, accomplishing that feat three times in cross country and once more in the Outdoor 3K Steeplechase as a member of the track & field team. A Division-III Cross Country National qualifier as a senior, Dick holds the sixth-fastest 5K time in program history (19:06) and two of the top three 6K times (22:10 and 22:46) in school history. Dick was inducted into Ripon's Athletics Hall of Fame in 2019, the first year she was eligible.
"Brittany was extremely talented, but talent can only take you so far. It was her passion for running and competing that made her exceptional," former Ripon Cross Country and Track & Field Head Coach Bob Duley said. "She invested in excellence, running 70 miles per week and doing track workouts at a specific pace and recovery time."
Just as talented in the classroom as on the track and course, Dick earned Academic All-America honors in 2006, the same season she qualified for Nationals in cross country for the first and only time.
"Brittany approached each day as a champion and with a vision to be the best that she could be, and she never stopped competing in practice or in meets," Duley said. "This drive and passion helped her qualify for the NCAA Division-III Cross Country Nationals, a feat only achieved by two other student-athletes in program history."
Also a three-time All-State performer, including twice on the First Team, Dick's running career didn't end the day she graduated. Instead, it only fueled the fire within her.
"After college, Brittany continued her passion for running and achieved a level of success that few post-collegiate athletes have experienced," Duley said. "She competes in many endurance events, including 100-mile ultra marathons."
This internal passion and drive led Dick to be featured on the cover of Trail Runner Magazine.
"In 2015, I was in a bookstore and unknowingly pulled up Trail Runner Magazine, and there was Brittany, right on the cover of this National publication," Duley recalled. "A year later, she was again inside the magazine, being sponsored by an apparel company."
An Archaeology major from Amherst, Wis., Dick currently resides in Steamboat Springs, Colo.
