DUNDAS, Minn. - Ripon battled Northland College in a doubleheader Friday night at the Dundas Dome. The Red Hawks lost the first game 7-0, before losing the nightcap in a nailbiter, 9-7.
After going without a hit in game one, Ripon's bats came alive in the second game, which saw them record 12 hits. Northland got out to a 4-0 lead in game two, but the Red Hawks got one run back in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by
Abby Gilbertson, which scored
Micaela Encarnacion from second base. Northland took a 7-1 lead after two innings, but Ripon battled back, scoring twice in the third on RBI singles by Hayley Rierson and
Claire Luebke.
The Red Hawks cut into that lead even more in the fourth, which saw them score three runs to cut the lead to one.
Mikaela Lawrence knocked in a pair with a triple, which was followed by a run-scoring double off the bat of
Micaela Encarnacion. Ripon tied things up one inning later on an RBI double by
Brennah Bronk. That tie lasted until the sixth when Northland grabbed the lead back on an RBI single. The LumberJills would then cap the scoring with another run in the final inning.
Encarnacion's bat was red-hot all game, as she tied a single game school record with a 4-for-4 performance at the plate.
Addison Lindsey added three hits, while Luebke and Bronk each added a pair of base knocks. Freshman
Alyssa Banta pitched well in relief, allowing just one earned run on eight hits and striking out three in 5.2 innings of work.
Ripon will be in action again on Sunday when they'll battle UW-Eau Claire. That doubleheader will begin at 11 a.m. in Rochester, Minn.
