RIPON, Wis. - Playing their first official game in nearly a year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ripon's men's basketball team took their long layoff frustrations out on Lake Forest, defeating the Foresters 96-64 on Saturday. The Red Hawks tied a school record for 3-pointers in a single game, making 16-of-38 for a 3-point percentage of .421. They also limited the Foresters to just 38.7 percent shooting (24-of-62) from the field.
After trading baskets for the first few minutes, Ripon ended the half on a 53-21 to open up a 33-point halftime lead. The Red Hawks led by as many as 36 in the second half. Ripon committed just five turnovers in the game, while scoring 30 points off 22 Lake Forest turnovers.Â
Jaylen Mahone led all scorers for the Red Hawks with a career-high 24 points, to go along with four steals.
Drew Jorgensen also scored a career-high with 21 points, including four 3-pointers.
Jack Brady added 14 points off the bench with four 3-pointers of his own, while
Ryan Steffes recorded 13 points, four rebounnds, three assists, and two steals.
Lake Forest was led by Johnny Roeser, who finished with a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds, to go along with a game-high five assists. Adam Weingard added 10 points and five rebounds off the bench, while Val Oplchenski and Frank Siegien each scored 11.
