WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. - Ripon lost both games of a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon against Trinity International. They lost the first game 1-0 in nine innings, before falling 8-0 in five in the nightcap.
Game one saw stellar pitching on both sides, as the teams combined for just nine hits. Ripon freshman
Alyssa Banta went the distance, allowing one run (unearned) and seven hits in an eight-inning complete game, while striking out three and walking just one. Trinity International (2-0) saw their two pitchers combine for a two-hit shutout, while striking out 19 batters.
Ripon's hits came from
Claire Luebke and
Micaela Encarnacion, who ripped her team-leading fifth double of this young season.
Mikaela Lawrence added a stolen base, her second of the season in as many attempts.
The second game wasn't nearly as close, but only featured runs in two of the contest's five innings. Trinity International scored seven runs in the top half of the second inning, before finishing the game off with another run in the fifth.
Ripon's lone hit in the second game came off the bat of
Brennah Bronk. Luebke pitched well in relief, allowing two runs in 3.2 innings of work.
