RIPON, Wis. - In a match that went down to the wire, Ripon's men's tennis team came out on the winning side Saturday afternoon, defeating Cornell (Iowa) by a score of 5-4. The match was decided on the very last flight of the day, as Vince Ireland defeated Michael Coester 6-0, 6-1 at the number five position. The Red Hawks won three of the six singles matches, while also taking two of three in doubles play.

In addition to Ireland's singles victory, Drew Jorgensen and Jonah Lazo also won their matches at the number one and six flights, respectively. Jorgensen defeated Federico Polidori 6-0, 6-1, while Lazo won 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles play, Jorgensen and Marcus Austin teamed up at the top flight to defeat the team of Polidori and Alexander Hadler by a score of 8-7. Ireland and Jonah Roeper were also victorious at number three doubles, defeating Coester/Bryce Fincher, 8-4.

Ripon (2-3) will now try to use this momentum as they begin their abbreviated conference season Wednesday at home against Lake Forest College. That match will begin at 5 p.m. at The Fieldhouse inside Willmore Center.
