Game Recap: Softball |

Beloit Takes Both Games of Wednesday's doubleheader

RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon, narrowly losing game one 2-1, while falling 13-4 in five innings in the nightcap.

The day's first game went down to the wire with neither team leading by more than one run. Beloit struck first in the top of the second when Maddie Moser scored on a wild pitch. The Red Hawks would tie the score in the fourth when Abby Gilbertson cracked her first career home run over the right center fence. That lead was short-lived, as Beloit scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of that frame on an RBI single off the bat of Emily Stapay. Ripon rallied in the bottom of the seventh, which saw Kayley Grabowski and Addison Lindsay lead off the inning with back-to-back singles. Beloit then strike out the next three batters to conserve the victory.

Ripon finished the game with five hits, coming from five different players. Mikaela Encarnacion and Victoria Duran each doubled for the Red Hawks, marking their eighth and second of the season, respectively. Alyssa Banta pitched all seven innings, suffering the hard-luck loss, while allowing two runs on nine hits and striking out a pair of batters.

The second game of the afternoon was the polar opposite of the first, as the two teams combined for 17 runs and 23 hits in the nightcap. Beloit scored two runs in both the first and second innings, before Ripon plated three runs in the bottom of the second on an RBI triple by Cortney Bols and one RBI apiece from Lindsey and Encarnacion.

Beloit got one of those runs back in the third before breaking the game open with four more runs in the fourth. Ripon added another run in the fourth when Lindsey scored on a wild pitch, but Beloit put the game away with four more runs in the top of the fifth.

Encarnacion led Ripon with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate to bring her season average to a team-best .371. Brennah Bronk and Lilli Smith each added two hits in the game.

Ripon will try to turn things around on Friday when they'll travel to Lawrence University. That doubleheader will begin at 3 p.m. in Appleton, Wis. and can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/.
