RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's men's soccer team played a great first half Sunday afternoon against Marian (Wis.), taking a 1-0 lead into halftime, but three second half goals by the Sabres led Marian to a 3-1 victory. The Sabres also out-shot the Red Hawsks 20-13.
Ripon scored the game's first goal just 28 seconds before halftime when
Chris Boehmke broke a scoreless tie on an assist from
Esteban Borja Pena. That lead lasted well into the second half, as all three Marian goals came in the final 15 minutes. Max Kauffman notched his fifth goal of the season on an assist by Drew Cowden to tie the game in the 75th minute. Cowden then added a goal of his own on a breakaway to give Marian the lead in the 83rd minute. Cowden would add an insurance goal with nearly one minute remaining for his fourth goal of the season.
Ripon Goal Keeper Kalen Narance played the entire game, making 10 saves. Marian's Cory Koehler also played all 90 minutes, saving four shots.
The Red Hawks will be in action again on Saturday when they'll travel to Lake Forest College.
