Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Ripon Finishes Furious Comeback With Winning Goal In Final Minute

RIPON, Wis. - In what was one of the most improbable wins in program history, Ripon's women's soccer team scored three goals in the final seven minutes to erase a two-goal deficit and defeat Marian (Wis.) University 4-3 on Sunday afternoon. Marian held a 20-18 shot advantage in the game, but Ripon out-shot the Sabres 13-9 after halftime.

Marian (4-5) struck first, breaking a scoreless tie in the eighth minute on a goal from Shannon Coughlin, with the assist credited to Rosa Lezotte. Ripon (1-2) tied things up later in the half on Camrie Schmitz's second goal of the shortened season. Marian then grabbed the lead back just before halftime when Peyton Witt found the back of the net.

The Sabres would add to that lead 10 minutes into the second half, as Lillian Giron made the score 3-1 with the assist from Coughlin. The next 27 minutes were somewhat uneventful, but Ripon more than made up for that with a scintillating final eight minutes. Abby Ryan scored in the 83rd minute on an assist from Schmitz to cut Marian's lead to one. Just one minute later, the score was tied when Schmitz scored her second goal of the game on an assist from Maggie Bouque. That set the stage for Brianna Schnell to play heroine, as she took a pass from Schmitz and found the upper left corner of the net with exactly one minute remaining, to give the Red Hawks the victory.

Ripon Goal Keeper Stefanie Zeiger played all 90 minutes between the pipes, making 12 saves. Marian had two Goal Keepers combine to make 11 saves.

The Red Hawks will be in action again on Saturday in what will be their 2021 Spring Season finale at home against Lake Forest. That game will begin at 1 p.m at Ingalls Field in Ripon. on what will be Senior Day for the Red Hawks.
