LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Ripon's shortened 2021 Spring season came to an end Saturday afternoon with a 38-10 loss to Lake Forest College. The Foresters out-gained Ripon 385-154 in total yardage, while also winning the turnover battle, 2-1.
After a scoreless first quarter, Lake Forest got on the board first with a 19-yard touchdown pass from Jeff Getchell to A.J. Jackson to give them a 6-0 lead with 10 minutes remaining in the half. The two teams then exchanged field goals in the final minutes of the second quarter. Ripon's was a 28-yarder by
Erik Flores, while the Foresters kicked a 36-yarder as time expired in the half.
Lake Forest opened the game up in the third quarter, scoring on a one-yard touchdown run by Dante Esposito and on a 33-yard touchdown pass from Getchell to Cooper Tomlin to give the Foresters a 24-3 advantage. Ripon's lone touchdown came towards the end of the third quarter when quarterback
Cormac Madigan found paydirt from three yards out.
The Foresters added two more touchdowns in the final quarter, scoring on a one-yard run from Stone Matthews and on a 22-yard pass from Getchell to Jackson.
Aaron Landry led Ripon with 24 yards on six carries, while Madigan gained 22 yards on the ground, while also completing 7-of-14 passes for 65 yards. Defensively, Ripon was led by
Matt Johnson, who recorded a game-high 11 tackles.
Brad Guell added eight tackles, to go along with the team's only interception and only sack.
Matthews led Lake Forest with 69 yards on 20 carries, while Armani Brown added 58 yards on just six carries (9.7 ypc). Getchell completed 12-of-17 passes for 177 yards and three touchdowns, while Jackson caught four passes for 80 yards and the two scores. The Lake Forest defense recorded five sacks, led by two from Levi Bourland. Kobee Marion recorded the Forester's only interception.
