Ripon Drops Season Finale Doubleheader At Lawrence

APPLETON, Wis. - Ripon's 2021 campaign drew to a close Saturday afternoon with a pair of losses at Lawrence University. The Red Hawks lost game one 13-3, before also dropping the nightcap, 9-3.

In the day's first game, Lawrence scored early and often, crossing the plate three times in the first and once more in the second before Ripon scored a pair of runs in the top of the third on RBI singles from Keegan Johnston and Jake Cedar.

The Red Hawks cut Lawrence's lead to a single run in the top of the fifth when Johnston scored on a double off the bat of Jake Pankratz. Lawrence then broke the game wide open with seven runs on seven hits in the bottom of that frame, before ending the game with two more runs in the seventh.

Ripon finished with 10 hits in the game, led by two apiece from Pankratz, Nick Tenny, and Andrew Betcher. Blaine Wahlen suffered the loss, despite allowing just one earned run on six hits through four innings of work.

The final game of the day saw Ripon strike first with a run in the top of the first on an RBI single to right by Nick Terrell. That lead lasted until the next inning, which saw Lawrence score twice, before adding another run in the third. Ripon closed the gap with another run in the fifth on another run-scoring single off the bat of Terrell.

Lawrence took control of the game with five runs in the sixth, followed by another in the seventh. Trailing 9-2 entering the ninth, Ripon scored another run on an RBI double by Tenny, but that was all they could muster.

Ripon's five hits came from three different players, with Terrell and Andrew DeMatteo each recording a pair of base knocks.
