RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's softball team completed their 2021 campaign Sunday afternoon with a pair of losses to St. Norbert College. The Red Hawks lost game one 4-3, before dropping the nightcap by a score of 9-3.
After a scoreless first inning, St. Norbert got on the board with a pair of runs in the top of the second, before adding another in the third. Ripon would get that run back in the bottom half of that inning when
Micaela Encarnacion scored on a groundout. The Red Hawks inched closer in the fifth when
Haley Reierson led the inning off with a double and later scored on a groundout.
St. Norbert extended their lead to two in the top of the sixth on an RBI single to center, but Ripon continued to put up a fight, scoring once on a St. Norbert error in the bottom of that inning. That's as close as they would get however, as the Red Hawks were retired in order in the bottom of the seventh.
Ripon's four hits came from Encarnacion, Reierson,
Claire Luebke, and
Lilli Smith, who pitched well in relief, tossing two hitless innings.
Game two saw Ripon jump on the board first with two runs on four hits in the bottom of the second.
Mikaela Lawrence drove in the first run with a single to center, before Encarnacion drove in another run with a single of her own. St. Norbert cut that lead in half the following inning, but Ripon got that run back in the bottom of the third on a sac fly by
Kayley Grabowski, allowing
Addison Lindsey to score.
That lead lasted until the fifth when St. Norbert scored three runs on one hit and two Ripon errors. They would score once more in the sixth and three more times in the seventh to break the game open.
Ripon finished game two with nine hits, as Lindsey,
Anna Bauer, and
Alyssa Banta led the way with two hits apiece.
