In the 46-year history of the Ripon College Women's Basketball program, there has been only one player to record more than 1,300 points and more than 600 rebounds in a career, with Barneveld, Wis. native Maggie Oimoen accomplishing that feat. A three-time First Team All-Conference selection and two-time Academic All-Conference performer, Oimoen ranks second in program history for career points (1,318), just nine shy of the school record. She also ranks third in rebounds (680) and second in double-doubles (19), while ranking second in blocked shots (123) as one of only two players in program history to record more than 100 career blocks.
Appearing in all but three games during her four-year career, Oimoen never averaged less than 10 points per game in a season, despite playing less than 20 minutes per game throughout her career. She was a career 53 percent shooter from the field, twice ranking in the top 35 in NCAA Division-III for single season field goal percentage.
"Maggie was an inside force for four years and is one of the hardest-to-guard post players in the history of the program," Ripon Head Women's Basketball Coach
Lauren Busalacchi said. "She made us so competitive on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court and her skill-set helped propel our team to two consecutive MWC championships."
Oimoen's impact on the program could be felt almost instantly. After going 2-23 the year before she arrived on campus, Oimoen led the Red Hawks to the biggest turnaround in the MWC in 10 years, helping the team go 14-10 as a freshman, while leading the team with 10.9 points per game despite starting just two games. That helped clinch Ripon's first appearance in the MWC Tournament in five years.
During her final three seasons, Oimoen led Ripon to three more MWC Tournament appearances, as the team accumulated a record of 53-24 during that span, including a 45-7 record in conference games. That helped the Red Hawks win back-to-back MWC Championships during her final two seasons, culminating in an NCAA Tournament appearance as a senior.
"My favorite memory from my playing days is winning the MWC Tournament in my final home game to advance to the NCAA Tournament," Oimoen said. "I'll never forget (fellow senior) Laurissa Johnson '19 and I finding each other and hugging on the court because we had been building up to that moment for four years."
Oimoen's senior season was one for the ages. Not only did she help the team win a conference championship, but Oimoen also became just the third player in program history to score more than 400 points in one season, finishing with 402, which ranks fourth in Ripon's record book. She set a school record with 45 blocked shots that season, while ranking sixth in rebounds (214) and seventh in field goal percentage (.550) and also recording 10 double-doubles.
Oimoen credits a lot of her success to Assistant Coach Freddy Yalden, who served on Busalacchi's coaching staff during Oimoen's sophomore season. Coach Yalden had been an NAIA All-American as a player and has experience playing professionally in Puerto Rico.
"Coach Freddy came from a post background and really helped me look at my position in a different way," Oimoen said. "She helped me develop my skills more in the year I had with her than any other time during my career."
A Biology and Psychology double major at Ripon, Oimoen currently resides in Cleveland, Ohio where she serves as a Research Tech at Cleveland Clinic.
