Volleyball Starts Strong But Falls At Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Ripon volleyball team took on Lake Forest on Friday night, falling in Midwest Conference action by a final of 3-1. Inesha Wiseman led the way offensively for the Red Hawks, racking up a match-high 13 kills. 
 
The opening set saw Ripon rattle off multiple 4-0 runs before eventually picking up the 25-20 victory to take the early lead. Five different players recorded kills for the Red Hawks, while the Foresters were unable to tally a positive hitting percentage in the opening set. 
 
Lake Forest settled into a rhythm in the second, jumping out to an 11-5 lead before ultimately pulling even with a 25-15 set victory. The third set didn't fare much better for Ripon, as the Foresters answered the Red Hawks' 5-0 run with an 8-1 run of their own to put the foot on the gas ahead of set point. 
 
The fourth and final set was the most tightly-contested battle of the night, as the Red Hawks and Foresters fought through five ties and four lead changes. Lake Forest came away with the final three points by way of kill, ace and a bad Ripon set to finish off the evening with a 25-21 win. 
 
Sam Thrasher recorded a team-best 17 digs, while Arynn Mathieu finished on her heels with 15. Riley Nielsen came away with 27 assists, marking the tenth time this fall she has cleared 20 in a match. 
 
The Red Hawks are back home on Tuesday night when they take on Carroll in non-conference action. First serve from Doc Weiske '50 Memorial Gymnasium is slated for 7:00 p.m.
