Huge Fourth Quarter Sends Ripon College To 16-14 Win

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Ripon College scored 13 points in the fourth quarter for a come-from-behind 16-14 victory at Lake Forest in a battle of undefeated teams Saturday afternoon.

The win pushes the Red Hawks to 6-0 (5-0, MWC) while the Foresters suffer their first loss and stands at 5-1 (4-1, MWC). Ripon improves to 36-15-3 in the all-time series against Lake Forest. 

Parker Campana hauled in a 15-yard pass with 22 seconds to play from Jarrett Zibert for the game-winning score. The play capped an 11-play, 75-yard drive for the victors.

Trailing 14-3 at the start of the fourth quarter, Zibert connected on a 15-yard toss to Kaipo Magsay to pull Ripon within four at 14-10 with the Erik Flores extra point.

After neither team could get on the board in the first quarter, the Foresters took a 7-0 lead with 12:05 to play before halftime on an 11-yard pass. Ripon forced a punt and returned it 35 yards to the 16-yard line. The Red Hawks lost six yards and on fourth-and-16, Flores booted home a 39-yard field goal to make it 7-3.

Lake Forest added a touchdown with 40 seconds to play before halftime for a 14-3 advantage at the break.

The Red Hawks started a drive with 33 seconds to play in the third stanza. Facing a second-and-10 at the LFC 48-yard line at the beginning of the fourth quarter, Alex Mosqueda caught a 24-yard pass. On third-and-1 at the 15-yard line, Zibert connected with Magsayo for the touchdown.

Ripon's defense stood strong throughout the quarter and the visitors got the ball once again after forcing a punt with 2:33 to play. Zibert hit Madigan for a 13-yard gain. On second-and-four, he connected with Walter Bryant for a 24-yard gain. The Red Hawks faced a fourth-and-two at the 24-yard line and Zibert rushed for three yards and a first down. Three plays later, Zibert found Campana for the game-winning score.

Zibert led the Red Hawks with 167 passing yards on 16-of-30 while tossing a pair of touchdowns. Zibert also paced the ground game with 53 rushing yards on 22 carries. Alex Mosqueda hauled in three passes for 45 yards to lead the receivers. Cormac Madigan caught a game-high six passes for 38 yards. Overall, Zibert's 16 completions went to six receivers.

Defensively, Brad Guell led the way with 15 total tackles, including six of the solo variety. He had a pair of tackles for loss. Fletcher Dallas had eight stops and hauled in an interception. Clay Ritschard rumbled 56 yards after picking up a fumble.
