Red Hawks Record 5-0 Shutout Against Emmaus

RIPON, Wis. – The Ripon College men's soccer team broke open a close match with four second-half scores en route to the 5-0 win over Emmaus Wednesday afternoon.

The Red Hawks are now 7-6-3 on the year while Emmanus falls to 5-5-2.

Jacob Oppeneer led the way with a pair of goals in the win. Pablo Gallardo, Yazan Mekki and Colin Reilly also tallied scores. Nick Bellisle, Gallardo and Andre Robertson were each credited with assists in the contest.

Ripon went on the attack early, drawing three corner kicks in a 55-second span. However, the team was unable to register a shot off the set pieces. Finley Manning rocketed the team's first shot of the net in the 15th minute, but it sailed right of the frame. In the 30th minute, Seid Husic notched a shot that missed high.

At the 31:21 mark, Mekki blasted a shot to the low right of the goal for a 1-0 advantage.

Tim Geocaris tried to make it 2-0 two minutes later but the shot was not on target. Another Geocaris attempt was stopped with just under 90 seconds to play in the half.

With the score still at 1-0 early in the second period, Reilly added the Red Hawks' lead with a goal at the 57:05 mark.

Oppeneer blasted a shot that found the back of the net at the 63:11 mark off a pass from Gallardo. Exactly one minute later, Bellisle found Oppeneer who rocketed home the pass for a 4-0 advantage. Gallardo got into the scoring act at the 65:23 mark when he took a pass from Robertson and promptly beat the keeper for what turned out to be the final tally.

Kenny Smith played 80 minutes between the pipes and had one save. Warren Januszkiewicz stopped a shot while playing 10 scoreless minutes.

The win marked the team's second shutout in as many days.

The Red Hawks return to action Saturday for the home finale against Grinnell College at 11 a.m. Live stats and video will be available at Riponredhawks.com.
