JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Ripon College men's soccer team lost a 5-1 match at Illinois College Saturday afternoon in the regular-season finale.
The Red Hawks wrap up the regular season with a record of 8-7-3 overall, including 4-2-2 in league play. The Blueboys stand at 9-8-2 on the year and 2-5-2 against conference foes.
Finley Manning blasted a shot toward the frame just 40 seconds in, but it was saved. The Blueboys countered with a pair of shots in the first two minutes. The second one passed the end-line for a 1-0 lead.
Ripon tried to counter in the 17
th minute of action but Andre Robertson's shot sailed to the left of the goal. Miguel Rodriguez's attempt at the 25:14 mark was also thwarted by the keeper.
At the 33:44 mark, the home squad was whistled for a foul in the box, resulting in a penalty kick. Arthur Soltys stepped up to the line and promptly blasted the shot home, knotting the score at 1-1 heading into the second half.
The Blueboys scored a pair of goals early in the stanza for a 3-1 advantage.
Despite trailing 3-1, Ripon College continued to play aggressive, pushing forward in the offensive third of the pitch. Manning tried to pull the team within one in the 60
th minute, but the keeper was up for the task with the save.
Illinois College recorded a goal at the 63:02 for a 4-1 margin and tacked on the final score in the 86
th minute of play.
For the match, Manning totaled five shots, including three on goal. Robertson totaled a pair of shots in the contest.
Kalan Narance played all 90 minutes in goal. He tallied seven saves.
The loss snapped a seven-match unbeaten streak by the Red Hawks.
