RIPON, Wis. – The Ripon volleyball team put the finishing touches on the 2022 campaign on Saturday, coming up just short in five sets against Beloit in the final match of the season. In her final career match, Inesha Wiseman came away with a career-high 22 kills to lead the way as one of three Red Hawks to record double-figure kills.
Ripon jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the opening set, but Beloit responded with a a 7-0 run of their own to move in front for the first time. The two teams exchanged points for the bulk of the set, but after the Buccaneers tied it at 23, an attack error and a Lydia Ellis kill helped the Red Hawks hang on for the early 1-0 advantage.
Beloit bounced back with a 25-14 set win to pull even, with the second set highlighted by a 15-6 Buccanner run. Wiseman recorded seven kills in the third set to keep the Red Hawks within striking distance, but Beloit was able to survive and put Ripon's back against the wall heading to fourth set.
Ripon refused to go quietly, however, picking up six of the first seven points in the fourth set to take Beloit out of their rhythm. The Buccaneers brought it within four late, but Wiseman hammered one home to find the final point and force a decisive fifth set.
Beloit came out in the fifth on fire, scoring the first seven points of the set. Ripon battled back to cut the deficit to one in the late going, but the Buccaneers held on for a 16-14 victory to end the Red Hawks season.
Ripon finishes the season as the first team out of the Midwest Conference Tournament and will now say goodbye to four seniors.
