Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Two First-Half Goals Sends Men's Soccer To Win

MONMOUTH, Ill.  The Ripon College men's soccer team used a pair of first-half goals en route to a 2-1 win at Monmouth Saturday.

The Red Hawks are now 4-6-2 on the season, including a 2-1-1 ledger in league play. The Fighting Scots fall to 2-8-2 on the year, including an 0-3 mark against conference competition.

Ripon registered its first shot on goal in the eighth minute of action, but Finley Manning was turned away. The visitors continued applying pressure in the team's offensive third of the pitch and it paid off at the 20:02 mark when Miguel Rodriguez found the back of the net with a goal in the upper left of the frame for the 1-0 advantage.

Although Monmouth knotted the score five minutes later, the Red Hawks would enter halftime with a 2-1 lead thanks to Shane Reid's goal in the 41st minute of play.

After gaining the advantage, the visitors used a tremendous defensive effort to keep Monmouth off the board. The home squad had a pair of shots in the early going of the period, but one was blocked and the other was high.

Ripon went on the attack, registering shots from Eli Dietzel and Abner Contreras were both saved.

In the final 10 minutes of play, Kalan Narance turned away three shots to preserve the one-goal victory.

For the match, Narance played all 90 minutes between the pipes and stopped seven shots.

The Red Hawks return to action Wednesday when they host Lawrence in a MWC clash at 3 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at Riponredhawks.com.
