Platteville, WI – The Ripon College Red Hawks women's basketball team kicked-off their 2022-23 season with a convincing 76-58 road victory over the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Tuesday night.
Ripon dominated the game, leading for all but the first few minutes of the game. The Red Hawks shot 61.2% from the field in the game, out-rebounded the Pioneers 38 to 22, and scored 44 of their 76 points in the paint.
The Red Hawks broke a 4-4 tie at the 6:05 mark of the first quarter and closed the opening frame on a 19-6 run to take a 23-10 lead into the first break. UW-Platteville cut the Ripon lead to single digits on a few occasions early in the second quarter, but Ripon maintained control of the game and held a 16-point advantage at halftime. Ripon coasted over the final 20 minutes of the game before closing out the 76-58 win.
Ripon had four players with double-digit points with
Bonnie Jensen's 19 points leading all scorers. Jensen added six rebounds and five assists to round out her stat-sheet filling season opener.
Skyylar Brescia posted a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double, while
Alison Leslie and
Vanessa Solano each netted 10 points.
Ripon will look to pick-up their second win of the 2022-23 campaign when they travel to Lakeland University on Saturday, November 12
th. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
