GALESBURG, ILL. - The Ripon College women's basketball team fell to 2-1 in Midwest Conference play after losing 67-54 to Knox College Saturday afternoon.
Ripon came out of the gates playing extremely well and held a 21-14 lead after one quarter of play. But, in the second quarter, Ripon was not scoring as efficiently as the first 10 minutes, connecting on just 26 percent of shot attempts, and their lead was severely cut into. What was a 10-point lead early in the second quarter was just a 1-point edge for Ripon at the half.
The third quarter was where the game slipped away from the Red Hawks. Ripon took a 37-34 lead after a
Skyylar Brescia layup, but the Red Hawks' offense went cold after that, and Ripon wouldn't score another point for 4 minutes. During that time, Knox went on a 15-0 run and turned Ripon's 3-point lead into a 12-point deficit. Ripon trailed by 10 going into the 4
th quarter and wouldn't get any closer than that in the final 10 minutes as the Red Hawks would fall, 67-54.
Brescia had 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists, while
Alison Leslie and
Bonnie Jensen had 12 points and 10 points, respectively. Jensen also had a team-high 8 rebounds.
Ripon travels to UW-Stevens Point on Saturday, December 17
th for their next contest. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
