RIPON, Wis. -
Alison Leslie became Ripon College's all-time leader in made three-pointers in the Red Hawks' 78-56 victory over Beloit College Wednesday night.
Leslie entered the night tied with Emma McDonald with 167 made three-pointers in her career. The senior couldn't get a shot from distance to fall in the first quarter, but Leslie wasted little time in the second quarter, burying her first shot of the period to vault herself into the top spot on Ripon's all-time list.
Leslie knocked-down 4-of-7 three-pointers in the game for her 12 points. She was one of three Ripon players in double-figures, the other two being
Bonnie Jensen and
Skyylar Brescia, who had 20 and 19 points, respectively. Brescia also dominated the glass, adding 17 rebounds to her 19 points for a strong double-double performance in just 17 minutes of play.
The first quarter of tonight's game was a back-and-forth affair. Beloit stood toe-to-toe with Ripon, erasing what was a 14-9 Ripon lead in the final three minutes of the quarter and taking a 16-14 lead after 10 minutes of play.
But Ripon came back with hot shooting in the second quarter, with Leslie starting things off with her record-breaking three-pointer. That three jumpstarted a 7-0 Ripon run that put the Red Hawks up, 21-16. Beloit halted the run and made it 21-19, but another 7-0 spurt had Ripon up by 9 with under 5 minutes to play in the first half. Beloit would again chop away at the Ripon lead, but when the horn sounded for halftime, the Red Hawks led 37-28.
The Red Hawks took control of the game in the third quarter, using smoldering defense to hold Beloit to just 2-of-13 shooting and 5 points overall in the frame. Ripon, while not shooting lights out themselves, recorded 15 points in the third quarter and held a 19-point advantage with 10 minutes to play.
Ripon pushed their lead to 27 early in the fourth quarter and led by as many as 29 points before finishing off the 78-56 win.
The Red Hawks, now 4-4 and 1-1 in Midwest Conference play, will play at Knox College on Saturday, December 10
