RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's men's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak Tuesday night with a 70-60 win over Beloit College. The Red Hawks shot 50 percent (28-56) from the field, while holding the Buccaneers to 42 percent (21-50) shooting in a game where Ripon never trailed.
Ripon (11-7, 7-3 MWC) got off to a hot start, scoring the game's first five points, before taking a 10-2 advantage on a
Dominic Galati 3-pointer. Beloit (5-15, 3-8 MWC) then scored eight consecutive points to tie the game at 10 on a dunk by Azeez Ganiyu. The two teams then traded baskets, before Ripon took control of the contest, taking an 11-point lead on a
Luke Meinholz layup with six minutes to play before halftime.
After taking a 10-point lead into the break, Ripon led by double-digits for most of the second half, as Beloit never got closer than eight the rest of the way. The Red Hawks took their largest lead of 15 points on a three-point play by
Ryan Steffes. They also scored 28 points off 19 Beloit turnovers.
Steffes led all players with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting.
Jaylen Mahone added 13 points off the bench, while Galati and
Owen Theune each scored 10 points.
Beloit was led by Mylan Walters' 13 points, while Michael Myles scored 11. Ganiyu and Andrew Walters each finished with 10 points.
Ripon will now try to build on this win Saturday when they'll travel to Appleton, Wis. to take on Lawrence University. That game will begin at 1 p.m., and can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/.
