AUBURNDALE, Fla. - Ripon's baseball team took an early lead Wednesday, but couldn't sustain it, as they ultimately fell to Anderson (Ind.) University by a score of 11-6.
The Red Hawks (3-4) scored first, plating a pair of runs in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by
Nick Terrell and a run-scoring groundout from
Brock Warren. Anderson got one of those runs back in the second on an RBI triple to center field, before taking the lead with a two-run third inning. Anderson scored two more runs in the fifth and four more in the seventh, before adding a pair of runs in the eighth to take an 11-2 advantage.Â
Ripon would try to mount a comeback with four runs in the bottom of the eighth, but the deficit was too much to overcome. In that inning,
Kaleb Burns drove in a run with a single to second base, while
Andrew DeMatteo scored on a wild pitch.
Nick Terrell also delivered a two-run double to center field to cap the scoring.
Terrell led the Red Hawks with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate, raising his season batting average to an eye-popping .667, with an on-base percentage of .758 on the year.
Nick Tenny scored two of the team's six runs.
Ripon will be back in action Thursday when they'll battle Illinois Wesleyan at 1:15 p.m. ET at Northeast Regional Park in Davenport, Fla.
