AUBURNDALE, Fla. - Ripon's baseball team ended their spring trip to Florida with a 4-3 record after defeating Rutgers-Camden 7-6 Friday afternoon. Senior shortstop
Nick Terrell continued to stay white-hot, going 3-for-5 at the dish, including a walk-off double in the bottom of the ninth to send the Red Hawks happy as they travel back to Wisconsin.
Rutgers-Camden (7-7) took the game's first lead with a two-spot in the top of the first, but Ripon (4-5) answered right back with three runs in the bottom of that frame, as
Samuel Ott delivered a two-run double and
Evan Barbian added an RBI single to center. The Red Hawks tacked on another run in the third when Terrell led that inning off with his fourth home run of the season and 13th of his career.
Rutgers-Camden cut Ripon's lead to one with a run in the fifth, but the Red Hawks would get that run back in the bottom of that inning on another RBI single off the bat of Barbian.
Cormac Madigan got into the action in the sixth when he drove in a run with a bunt, but Rutgers-Camden added two runs in the seventh and another in the top of the ninth to tie the score. That set the stage for Terrell's heroics in the final inning, as he followed a pair of walks to Madigan and
Nick Tenny with a no-out double to center field to win the game.
Through nine games, Terrell is now batting .606 with seven doubles, four homers, and 11 RBI. Tenny, Barbian,
Brock Warren, and
Cam Stampfl each added two hits in the game. Ott earned the victory in his first collegiate pitching appearance, allowing three runs on six hits in four innings of relief.
The Red Hawks will be i action again on Wednesday for what will be their 2022 home opener against Carthage College. That game will begin at Noon at Francis Field in Ripon, and can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/.
