Ripon's Season Ends In First Round of NCAA Tournament

WHITEWATER, Wis. - Ripon's women's basketball team entered Friday's First Round of the NCAA Division-III Tournament riding a 10-game winning streak, which is the third-longest in program history. That streak came to an end with a 58-34 loss to 12th-ranked UW-Whitewater, which saw the Red Hawks shoot just 24 percent (13-54) from the field.

The Red Hawks (18-10) kept pace with the Warhawks (24-4) for at least one quarter, as a Bonnie Jensen putback tied the score at eight in the final minute of the opening period. The two teams traded baskets in the opening minutes of the second quarter, before UW-Whitewater ended the half on a 21-6 run to take a 15-point halftime lead.

The Warhawks would lead by double digits for the remainder of the contest, taking their largest lead of 26 midway through the final quarter. UW-Whitewater finished the game shooting 43 percent (23-53) from the field, while scoring 24 points off 27 Ripon turnovers.

Ripon, which was appearing in their second NCAA Tournament in three seasons, was led by Bonnie Jensen's 11 points and six rebounds, while Alison Leslie added nine points. Skyylar Brescia also chipped in with eight points and a team-high nine rebounds (four offensive).

UW-Whitewater played tenacious defense all night, recording 14 blocked shots and 16 steals on the night. They were led by a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds by Johanna Taylor, who also recorded four blocks. Aleah Grundahl and Kacie Carollo each scored a game-high 15 points, while also recording three and four steals, respectively. The Warhawks shot 43 percent (23-53) on the night.
