Ripon Picks Up First Two Wins of 2022

RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's men's tennis team won both of their matches on Sunday to earn their first victories of the 2022 season. The Red Hawks won each match convincingly, topping Lakeland University 8-1, before defeating Milwaukee Area Technical College by a score of 9-0.

Against Lakeland, the Red Hawks (2-4) won all three singles matches by a combined score of 24-9, while winning five of their six singles matches, all coming in straight sets.

Drew Jorgensen won his number one singles match by a score of 6-0, 6-1, while Preston Wurtz won his number three singles match 6-2, 6-0. Marcus Austin and Ty Rondestvedt won at the number four and five flights by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores, while Jaden Francis was victorious at number six singles, 6-4, 7-5.

In doubles play, Jorgensen teamed up with Austin at the top flight to win 8-4. The team of Francis and Rondestvedt won 8-2 at the second flight, while Calvin Battle and Eugene Pliska won 8-3 at the third flight.

Ripon also handled the second match with ease, defeating MATC (0-1) by a score of 9-0. Drew Jorgensen won 6-1, 6-0 at the top singles flight, while Rondestvedt and Francis won their singles matches at the number two and three flights by scores of 6-0, 7-5 and 6-0, 6-1, respectively. In doubles play, Austin teamed up with Jorgensen at the top flight to win 8-1.

Ripon hopes to use their momentum next weekend as they'll face Wartburg College and Northwestern (Minn.) at 3 and 7 p.m., respectively. Their match against Wartburg will take place in Collegeville, Minn., while their match against Northwestern will be in St. Paul, Minn.
