KENOSHA, Wis. - Playing a "home" doubleheader two hours away from their true home field Saturday afternoon due to the cold temperatures, Ripon's softball team lost a pair of games to conference foe Illinois College. The two teams entered the final inning of the first game tied at four, before the Red Hawks lost 7-4, before dropping the nightcap 10-0 in five innings.
After two scoreless innings in game number one, Illinois College (13-11, 6-2 MWC) broke through with two runs in the top of the third. Ripon (5-21, 3-5 MWC) would match that with a pair of runs in the bottom of that frame, which saw
Brennah Bronk record a two-run triple to right field.
Illinois College then scored two more rus in the fifth, only to see Ripon again match them with two in the bottom of that inning on RBIs by Bronk and
Anna Bauer. The two teams entered the seventh tied at four, but Illinois College came up clutch with three runs on three hits in the final inning to take the victory.
Bronk led the Red Hawks with two hits and three RBI, while
Maddie Hablewitz scored a team-high two runs. Savanna Trittlewitz struck out three batters, while walking just one, as she pitched a complete game.
The second game of the day saw Illinois College score early and often, plating two runs in the opening inning and four more in both the second and third frames.
Ripon finished that contest with three hits, coming off the bats of Hablewitz, Bronk, and
Mikaela Lawrence.
The Red Hawks will try to rebound on Friday when they'll host Lake Forest College in a doubleheader at 3 p.m. Those games will be played at Tracy Field in Ripon, and can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/.
