CHICAGO, Ill. - Ripon's baseball team handed University of Chicago just their second conference loss of the season in the nightcap of Tuesday's doubleheader split. The Red Hawks dominated that second game 11-1, as they ended the game in eight innings, after falling to the Maroons in game one by a score of 9-1.
Ripon's lone run in the first game came in the third inning on an RBI single by
Cormac Madigan, who finished with one of the Red Hawks' five hits in the contest.
Rex Bayer pitched two scoreless innings of relief, allowing just two hits.
Game two was a different story however, as
Mitchell Lukasik pitched a gem, tossing a one-hitter, without allowing an earned run. The freshman remains undefeated during his collegiate career, improving to 4-0 in five starts, while lowering his team-best Earned Run Average to 2.50 in 39.2 innings of work.
Offensively, Ripon finished the game with 10 base knocks, including four extra base hits. Madigan went 2-for-5 at the dish with two doubles, two runs scored, and two RBI.
Kaleb Burns added two hits and two RBI of his own, while
Nick Terrell went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI, while recording his team-leading 13th double of the season. That raises Terrell's season batting average to a team-best .409.
Ripon (11-12, 7-7 MWC) never trailed in that second game, taking a 7-0 lead with a six-run second inning, before Chicago (16-8, 12-2 MWC) scored their lone run of the contest.
The Red Hawks will be in action again on Thursday when they're scheduled to take the short trip along highway 23 to Fond du Lac, Wis. to battle Marian University at 7:30 p.m. That game can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/marianwi/.
