Game Recap: Baseball |

Ripon Remains Undefeated In Conference Play

RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's baseball team extended their season-long win streak to six games Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep of Illinois College. The Red Hawks won the first game 7-3, before also winning the second 8-5, to improve their conference record to 5-0 on the year.

In the first game of the day, Ripon (9-5, 2-0 MWC) scored first on an RBI single to right field in the third inning off the bat of Nick Tenny. Illinois College would take the lead in the top of the fourth on a two-run double, but the Red Hawks grabbed the lead right back in the bottom half of that inning. Kaleb Burns tied the score with an RBI triple to center, before later scoring the go-ahead run on a single by Tenny.

Nick Terrell added another run in the fifth, scoring on an IC fielding error, before driving in two runs one inning later when he blasted his fifth home run of the season and 14th of his career.

Tenny led all players with three hits, while Terrell and Samuel Ott each recorded two base knocks. Brock Warren (2-0) earned the victory, allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out nine in seven innings of work.

Ripon picked up where they left off in game two, taking a 3-0 lead in the second inning after a two-run single by Cormac Madigan and an RBI single off the bat of Tenny. Illinois College got one run back in the third, but it was not enough, as Warren and Jake Pankratz connected on back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the third to extend Ripon's lead. Ott added a bases loaded double in the bottom of the eighth, clearing the bases in what turned out to be the difference in the game.

Madigan, Tenny, and Warren each finished the game with two hits. Mitchell Lukasik (3-0) earned the victory, allowing four runs and striking out four batters in 5.2 innings of work.

The Red Hawks will try to sweep the season series with the Blueboys on Monday when they'll play a single game at The Woodside Complex in Mauston, Wis. The first pitch is scheduled for Noon, and can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/.
