RIPON, Wis. - For the first time since 2005, Ripon's men's tennis team is 3-0 in the Midwest Conference, after defeating Lawrence University Wednesday night by a score of 7-2. The win also marks the Red Hawks' first four-game win streak since 2007.
Ripon (6-6, 3-0 MWC) won two of the three doubles matches on the day, while also winning five of six singles matches. In doubles play,
Ty Rondestvedt and
Jaden Francis teamed up at the number two flight to win 8-3, while the team of
Calvin Battle and
Eugene Pliska earned an 8-2 victory at the third flight.
In singles competition, Battle came back to win his number two flight match 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, while
Preston Wurtz won his third flight match with ease, 6-1, 6-1.
Marcus Austin battled to a hard-fought 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 victory at the fourth flight, while Rondestvedt and Francis won at the number five and six positions, respectively, by scores of 6-0, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-1.
Ripon will try to keep things rolling on Saturday for what will be Senior Day against Grinnell and Cornell. Those matches will begin at 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., respectively, and will be played at The Field House inside Willmore Center.
