RIPON, Wis. - Ripon freshman lefty
Mitchell Lukasik continued his outstanding debut season Friday afternoon, limiting Cornell to just four hits, while striking out 10 in a complete game shutout, as Ripon defeated the Rams 11-0 in seven innings. The win moves the Red Hawks into third place in the Midwest Conference standings as they continue to vye for a spot in next weekend's four-team MWC Tournament.
Ripon (16-19, 12-10 MWC) wasted no time getting on the board, scoring the game's first run in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by
Samuel Ott. The Red Hawks would score four more times in the following inning on a sac fly by
Kaleb Burns, an RBI double by
Nick Terrell, and a two-run single by Ott. They would break the game wide open with five more runs in the fourth, scoring twice on bases loaded hit by pitches, and three more times on bases loaded walks.
Keegan Johnston capped the scoring in the fifth with an RBI double to left center.
Ripon finished with nine hits in the game, led by a 3-for-4 performance from lead-off batter
Cormac Madigan, who also scored two runs.
Brock Warren added two hits, while also scoring twice. Lukasik improved to 6-1 on his young career.
The Red Hawks will be in action again on Saturday when they'll host Cornell in a doubleheader at Noon. Those games can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/. With two wins, Ripon will clinch a spot in the 2022 MWC Tournament.
