HANCOCK, Mich. – Mohamed Koroma's penalty kick with less than 15 minutes remaining gave Finlandia University a 4-3 men's soccer victory over Ripon College Saturday at McAfee Field.
The Lions improved to 1-2-3, while the Red Hawks fell to 1-4-1. Ripon returns to action Tuesday when they host the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in a 4:30 p.m. match at Prairie Field.
The penalty kick was the third goal of the day for Koroma, who gave Finlandia an early 1-0 lead with a goal 2:16 into the match. After a goal in the 20th from Chinedu Ikem doubled the Lions lead, the Red Hawks trimmed the deficit to 2-1 at the 29:57 mark on
Tim Geocaris' goal from
Nick Bellisle. It was the second goal of 2022 for Geocaris.
Finlandia pushed the lead to 3-1 on a Koroma goal in the 66th minute before two
Eli Dietzel strikes in less than a three-minute span tied the match at 3.
Braden Lechner set up the first goal at the 66:38 mark, before Dietzel converted a penalty kick at the 69:24 mark. It was Dietzel's first two goals of the season.
It would stay that way until the 75:32 mark when Koroma converted a PK of his own to give the Lions the win.
Ripon outshot Finlandia 18-14, including a 10-8 margin on goal. The Red Hawks led 9-6 in corner kicks.
Ripon goalkeeper
