GREEN BAY, Wis. - Ripon College men's and women's cross country opened their 2022 campaign with a pair of second-place finishes at the Tom Barry Invitational on the Shorewood Cross Country Course.
Led by three top 10 individual finishes, the Red Hawk men were eight points behind 6K winner Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), scoring 60 points to the Raiders 52. Senior runner
David Potter led Ripon with a time of 20:22.25 to finish seventh, his best career finish at the TBI.
Sam Forstner (20:32.55) and
Niko Martinez-Ortiz (20:33.95) finished less than two seconds apart in ninth and 10th place, respectively. Sophomores
Christian Kuwaye (16th, 20:46.98) and Jonah Decleene (18th, 20:49.82) rounded out the Red Hawks' top five.
Matt Seeber (27th, 21:10.39) and
Rainier Villanueva (38th, 21:37.94) also competed.
Ripon's average time of 20:38 was eight seconds behind MSOE (20:30). Wisconsin-Green Bay sophomore Riley Siltman won the individual race with a time of 19:57.84.
Ripon's women scored 78 points with two top 10 individuals and their best five finishers scoring in the top 25. Junior runner
Mikayla Flyte led Ripon with a personal record 19:57.04 to finish fifth individually, while
Grace Engebretson ran a 20:45.34 PR to finish 10th.
Jenny Cortes made her freshman debut with a time of 21:25.35 to finish 18th and freshman
Angela Mosconi was two spots back in 20th position with a time of 21:29.15.
Kiki Sherman also scored points for the Red Hawks, finishing 25th with a PR 21:45.19. Also competing for Ripon were
Natalie Pakosz (27th, 21:25.35, PR) and
Isabelle Willett (35th, 22:20.27).
The Red Hawks combined for a 21:05 average to finish behind University of Wisconsin-Green Bay in the 5K. Individual winner Kelsey Radobicky led UWGB with a time of 19:29.63.
Ripon will return to the race course Sept. 10 at the Gill Dodds Invite in Wheaton, Illinois.
