Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Second Half Goal Leads to Tie for Ripon

PLYMOUTH, Wis. – Finley Manning scored the lone goal for the Ripon College men's soccer team, but it was an important one as it tied the match at 1-1 and forced a tie against the Lakeland University Muskies today at Taylor Memorial Field.

With the tie, the Red Hawks move to 0-1-1 on the season while Lakeland opens the season at 0-0-1.

Manning's goal came at the 52:51 mark in the contest off an assist from Andre Robertson. The goal was also the first for freshman naive of St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada in his collegiate career.

The Muskies scored relatively early as Cole Cederwall found the back of the net at the 5:13 mark off an assist from Kidus Samson.

As a team, Ripon out shot Lakeland 12-7. Robertson led the attack with three total shots and two being on goal.

Despite the seven shots from Lakeland, the Red Hawks did not register a save in the contest while the Muskies compiled six saves between two goal keepers. Carson Galla collected four in the first 45 minutes and Ben Taylor came away with two saves.

The contest marked the 20th meeting between the two teams with the all-time record now standing at 9-9-2. The last four meetings between schools all decided by one goal or less.

Ripon College has one more road trip before finally getting to play at home. The next contest, however, is a trip to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for a matchup against Wisconsin Lutheran College September 7 at 7 p.m. The Red Hawks won last year's meeting between the two squads, 3-2.
