WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Red Hawk volleyball team split the final day of the Wisconsin Blast Tournament on Saturday, picking up the first win of the season along the way.
Inesha Wiseman came away with 31 kills and let the offense for all four matches of the weekend, and she is already over 50 kills for the season.
In Saturday's opener against Blackburn, the first set went back and forth before Ripon rattled off four straight points to make it a 13-9 score. The Red Hawks took a 1-0 lead behind another 4-0 run, with
Riley Nielsen picking up the final kill of the set.
Wiseman slammed down a kill in the second set to break a 3-2 tie, and Ripon never looked back, dominating the rest of the set to push the lead to 2-0. Wiseman again came up big in the final set, recording seven kills to give the Red Hawks their first victory of the young season.
The nightcap came against an unbeaten Simpson team and saw Ripon play their first four-set match of the year. Simpson took the first set 25-20, but the Red Hawks answered in a big way in the second, with Wiseman,
Riley Nielsen,
Lydia Ellis and
Arynn Mathieu combining for all the offense.
Ripon gave Simpson all they could handle it third, but the Storm prevailed to the tune of a 25-22 win before closing out the day with another win in the decisive fourth set.
The Red Hawks are home for the first time this fall next weekend, when they host the Ripon College Classic at Doc Weiske '50 Memorial Gymnasium. Cardinal Stritch (5 p.m.) and Luther (7 p.m.) make the trip to Ripon on Friday, while Maranatha Baptist (12 p.m.) and St. Norbert (2 p.m.) will be the visitors on Saturday.
