JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Ripon volleyball team opened up Midwest Conference play on Friday, falling 3-1 on the road at the hands of Illinois College.
Inesha Wiseman was impressive once again for the Red Hawks, racking up a team-high 13 kills to highlight the effort.
The Lady Blues took the first two sets by identical scores of 25-11, but the Red Hawks stormed back to get on the board with a tight 25-23 win in the third set. Wiseman came away with five of her kills in the third, while Ripon saw six players record a point in a set for the first time this season.
A service ace put the Red Hawks in front 18-15, but the Lady Blues answered with four straight points to take a 19-15 lead. Ripon took three of the final four points to close out the match, with two of them coming by way of a Wiseman kill.
Illinois College went back to work in the fourth set, riding an early 9-4 victory to a clinching set point. Wiseman has now recorded exactly 13 kills in each of her last four matches, while
Riley Nielsen picked up 21 saves and
Sam Thrasher led the way defensively with 19 digs.
The Red Hawks are back in action on Tuesday, when they head to Dubuque, Iowa to take on Loras College in Midwest Conference play. First serve is slated for 7:00 p.m. from Lillis Court.
